Introduction
I decided to name my blog music with math because the two mesh really well together and represent both sides of my future career ideas. I have assumed that I would go in to some math or science field for a job ever since I stopped believing that I was going to be a fireman back in elementary school. However, I know now that I would not be content going to a strictly math/science school and devoting my life to STEM and CS activities. While I enjoy and probably spend too much time on math, physics, and programming, I have also been in a band for the past two years and have really immersed myself in music creation and production. Writing and performing music is an incredible way to let one's creative side out while still being a somewhat intellectual pursuit. The actual music theory and composition requires thought and precision, like math and science fields, yet the composition of lyrics and actual performance of a song is much more emotional and draws more from the creative side of the brain. Whether I would take up math as my career and have music as a hobby or take up music and have math as a backup plan still remains undecided, although right now I am strongly leaning towards the former. For now, I have this blog to talk about the two and my respective interests in them, and maybe through stream-of-consciousness monologue I will come to some realization about the exact direction in which I want to take my life.

ReplyDeleteYou really do spend a lot of time on math, physics, and programming... but it's pretty cool. Especially since I have no idea how to program and my schedule won't exactly give me time to learn anytime soon :(
ReplyDeleteI still think you should have done marching band this year - it's a lot of fun and it would go with your idea of performing music. Maybe next year?

You are one of the smartest and most driven people I know, so the fact that you chose a career that involves difficult subjects, such as math and science, does not surprise me. I hope that you find a way to incorporate music into your school subjects later on when you're in college.
ReplyDeleteEven though I am focussing on STEM activities and classes and I don't have musical talent (that I know of) I still appreciate music. I encourage you to incorperate music into your math based future or vice-versa because you should incorperate your interests into your own future; you can't go wrong.
ReplyDeleteAlex, although I am very disappointed that you're not doing the musical this year, I find it amazing how you maintain decent grades in 4 AP's, are in a band, AND you're still devoted to the robotics team. You must teach me the ways of time management! I hope you find the happy medium between your beautiful creativity and your brilliant logical half of your mind as well.
